Where do you even find the time?
Everyone, including my bosses boss!
My initial response to this question is to laugh – almost nervously. Writing is my hobby and sometimes I can’t find the time. Worse, sometimes I can’t find the motivation… but that’s another story.
I work full time within an industry quite a trek from fictitious writing. With a full schedule not only in the office but also at home, it can quite often be difficult to find opportunities to write. So what do I do?
Foremost, I dream! Most fiction comes from the imagination, but almost like a second life, I enjoy the opportunity to experience my stories through my dreams. By the time I come to write them, the ideas already well formed. All I need to do now is write.
My favourite time to write is my commute. I often find a long walk or journey on public transport quite therapeutic. I also find lunchtimes in the office useful, though they can at times come with a caveat such as an enquiring guest or distracting noise.
Whilst I know I should probably be using these times to take a timeout, its prime opportunity to be productive in my hobby; that I’d otherwise be unable to keep up with.
