Carnival: Tales From Within is a collection of short stories and poetry, centered around an establishment known only as Carnival. Run by the equally mysterious Conductor, Carnival brings a paranormal and dreamlike experience to all those who are lured into a fate unlike any Heaven or Hell. A fate where Life and Death have no weight nor meaning against acts of Sin.
You cannot want to find Carnival. It finds those who need it.
But; Carnival is more than just words. It’s more than the same paragraphs I find myself reading over and over again to make sure I have translated it just right for you (the reader). It’s even more than the story and poem, each conjoining to form an eerie and erotic read.
Then what is it?
Quite frankly, it’s me. It’s my subconscious. It protects me from reality, partitions my experiences; taunts, mocks, pains and repairs me. Its my home, a second life* to live in parallel, experiencing events not welcome in our reality.
*At least, it is when I sleep and disappear into a daydream. Time runs there like ours. If I leave and return, time would have passed by. Think of it like a game without a pause button.
You are probably thinking this sounds a lot like your average brain with a good imagination. You are possibly right as I can only compare against myself, however, I also feel like it’s more. I know it’s more.
Born from experiences going back two decades, it has grown from a single room – where I would seek refuge and claim revenge on my bullies and struggles – to a grand, immeasurable establishment with various rooms, corridors, realms and more built into its deepening depths.
What will you do with it?
I’m going to share it; like I have always wanted to; like it feels natural to.
I am going to take my twenty years of dreams from their scribbled notes and doodles and write them into stories, poetry, verse; however they feel most natural. Some may even become all of the above. Then, I’m going to publish them!
I might publish a few singularly along the way, for you to read – to fall in love with OR hate (that you enjoyed them) – but they will all be published in the end. The nice ones, the mean ones, the vile and the erotic – even the one I have sat in my draft pile right now that disgusts even me.
So I think my question to you will be; will you follow me into the night?
