As I sit on this rampant train home, somewhat missing the steady sway of this mornings turtle over this energised jitter, I reminisce on my days adventure.

What a fantastic day!

Today was the day that I took a chance on a little while back when I signed up to attend The London Book Fair (see Taking a Chance). Short of releasing my first short story, Mannequin, in February, this was a great milestone for me, both personally and for my career as a writer. It was a shame I could only attend the last day of the event, but it didn’t stop me from getting the most out of what they had to offer.

The London Book Fair is an annual event that takes place over three days, hosting a little of everything from the publication industry; from writers and illustrators through to print and distribution from across the globe.

I got in early, patiently queuing, waiting for the doors to open. Even still, the halls of Kensington’s Olympia were bustling with bodies that traversed the countable booths lining the many walkways. Grand displays bragged their library of works as insightful talks sang from stages deep within their zones. There was no shortage of industry leaders (and giants), but let’s not neglect to mention the novel idea of a mobile massage booth!

Among the opportunities to network and meet like minded peers, I found myself drawn to the wisdom of authors Mark Dawson, Hannah Lynn, and Nicola May, as they discussed their experience finding and expanding on their readership. Their knowledge and direction was invaluable and many points resonated on a level that I think many other aspiring writers also suffer.

Coming away, I feel I have a renewed sense of direction and confidence, something I felt had begun to ebb away after Mannequin; and more excitingly, I have a plan!
