I don’t know why I was surprised when I saw the advert for The London Book Fair. First of all; it was on social media, their algorithms are ridiculously clever with even the slightest hint of a topic. Secondly; like any industry, writing and publishing content (to name a few) have various experts and events like this promote and share opportunities.
The London Book Fair is the global marketplace for story creators, the hub of the publishing world and the industry’s essential spring chapter.

My initial response was fear and avoidance, then deliberation whether or not I should go to such an event. After all, I have only just self published my first title and started sharing my work; would such an ‘amateur’ be welcome. Of course!
Events like The London Book Fair are ideal for new starters in an industry. They are a key opportunities to network and learn from others who may also just be starting out or long time professionals. They are also great opportunities to find solutions to challenges you have been facing.
Am I nervous? Yes!
Just a little insight into me, I am not a socialite. I am quiet, often shy and in this instance… completely out of my comfort zone! With all that in mind, I am also very excited! Despite being outweighed and outgunned, I will be meeting likeminded people about a topic I am passionate about. Life’s too short to duck and hide.
