The past week has probably been my least productive this year, at least in terms of writing. That doesn’t mean I haven’t achieved anything – just not what, nor as much as I intended.

Starting the week with a busy schedule at work, my comfort zone being tested by the use of ‘draining skills’. Like many writers, I am an introvert; working with – or rather managing – people is not a strength and so I struggle when I have to lead.

I won’t lie, I was tired, grumpy and seeking the comfort of bed as soon as I got home.

It is during times like these that my writing helps me most; to retreat into my imagination and find a place that feels welcoming and familiar. Alas, my lunchtime writing spot was occupied most of the week, and so was my back up bench. I tried walking it off and even tried to find a new place to write; sadly to no avail.

As the week passed by, Wednesday did offer me some delight with news of my first ever royalties payment. I was excited, not because I was being paid for something I had written, but because someone was reading it. Whilst modest in volume, this helped bring me to the surface for a breath of air; ahead more chaos.

Of course, life decided to throw some curveballs my way. One in the form of yet more emergency vet bills. Another in the form of overtime and issues in work. But we adapt, overcome and reach Friday with a sigh of relief.

Now, Friday, that was my recovery; not because it was the end of the week, but because I got to go to the circus! Yes the circus! Oh how I love the circus. The tent, the lights, the candy-floss; that alluring mix of smells, noises and the atmosphere! A group of talent working together to produce a beautiful display; equally sharing the responsibility of performance and crew.

With so many elements and details linked to those used in my Carnival, how could I not come away refreshed and inspired!
